Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - 5barwarrior - 01-Oct-2013 Hello Foosers: Here is the team list and the rankings 1. Frank, Taha, Chris A. 2. Merv, Thai, Chris T. 3. Jon, Manny, Steve 4. Vern, Carm, Gid 5. Jesse, Packer, Casti 6. Omar, Shadi, Roni 7. Mario, Julian, ? (Waiting for confirmation on plan for third) 8. Sam, Mary, Andrew. 9. Jason, Kevin, Waleed 10. Ken, Eduardo, Clint 11. Elli, Tyler, ? (Waiting for third confirmation) 12. Nataly, Jessica, Madura. With twelve teams, it gives us a couple options for the tiers. Option 1: 3 Tiers of 4. This is what we have been running in the past. Rotations would take place after three weeks in the tier. Week 4, 7, 10, 13, 16. Pros: The three groups would be fairly balanced with a top group, a middle group, and a bottom group. Cons: The tiers are a bit smaller which would limit the variety of the competition. Option 2: 2 tiers of 6. Rotations would take place after 5 weeks in the tier. Week 6, 11, 16. Pros: The two groups would be fairly balanced. Larger variety of opponents. Cons: The two groups would be too balanced. The teams that would transition would either win every week, or lose every week. This could impact the overall standings. Before a decision is made, I would be interested in hearing opinions on the subject. RE: Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - 5000 Years Old Man - 01-Oct-2013 3 tiers of 4 ======= why 3 tiers instead than 2, among other, the more frequent rotations would alleviate a bit the difference in strength among certain teams by the way, under Cons: for Option 2, did you mean to write: "The two groups would be too little balanced at the fringes" or something like that? RE: Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - Doubledipper - 01-Oct-2013 (01-Oct-2013, 10:42 AM)5barwarrior Wrote: Hello Foosers:I like the two tier system but,the other con is that it requires a schedule. However, it would be fun to play a couple more teams. Omar and Jesse's team can definately Hang in tier one and challenge anyone. RE: Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - 5000 Years Old Man - 01-Oct-2013 if you are in tier 1 and drop to tier 2 you'll be playing with other different 3 teams! same if you are in tier 2 and go up to tier 1, in tier 2 and go down to tier 3, and so on... as often as each 3 weeks! ======================================================================== both Option 1 and Option 2 tier systems require a schedule, reset at each 3 or 5 weeks respectively RE: Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - 5barwarrior - 01-Oct-2013 Gid, you are right in both cases. - I meant to say that with the two groups of 6 the separations between team 6 and 7 would be too wide. - Yes, with either option there will be a schedule. You would play each team in the group one before the rotation. The schedule would be posted at the start of the rotation. Taha RE: Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - Jester - 01-Oct-2013 I like 2 tiers of 6 because I think the top 6 teams are all close enough in skill that every week is a challenge and because I feel the same way about the 6 in tier 2. All of the teams from 7-12 are close enough in skill that every week would be a challenge as well (have not seen the new team play yet). I agree that it poses a problem for how to move teams up and down though, and I doubt with this close to the season anyone is up for a change in how that works. An alternative for example would be after 5 weeks the teams that are 6+7 play a set # of games to decide if 6 stays or 7 takes their place. That being said last years winter league was great and we ran 3 tiers of 4. I think it will still work well for this league, the tiers are also fairly nice split into 3. 2 tiers of 6 or 3 tiers of 4, regardless its gonna be great. Really did a good job of promoting it this last month. Got teams rounded out and got the cobwebs off of some veterans. This is going to be a great month of foos in Ottawa as we build up to Syracuse. Tier 2 start works for us, helped Dan, Jason and I last winter league and we get to warm up on Omar how could I oppose that. My only real disappointment is that were just not going to get to play against tier 1 guys on Wed's leading up to Syracuse since were starting in tier 2. RE: Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - rustyspurs - 01-Oct-2013 I like two tiers of 6 for the variety. I think the top six teams are close enough that it can be fun for all. The three tier system is okay but I get tired of playing against the same groups. The six team tier will help with boredom. Yes there might be a few blow outs but so what it is a learning experience for the loser. Just my opinion I am fine with what the majority prefers and can go with three tiers if necessary. V RE: Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - Doubledipper - 01-Oct-2013 Hey 5-bar, what r the game sheets gonna look like? can we see them before the start of league? Anything changed? RE: Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - 5barwarrior - 02-Oct-2013 no change - they are here: http://forums.ottawafoos.com/showthread.php?tid=1230 RE: Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - Jon - 02-Oct-2013 Great I liked that format where everyone plays singles and specialty! And we got rid of the 3-man game RE: Winter League 2013/14 Tier Structure - 5barwarrior - 07-Oct-2013 Hello Foosers: Here is the team list and the rankings 1. Frank, Taha, Chris A. 2. Merv, Thai, Chris T. 3. Jon, Manny, Steve 4. Vern, Carm, Gid 5. Jesse, Packer, Casti 6. Omar, Shadi, Roni 7. Mario, Julian, Tony (Belal) 8. Sam, Mary, Andrew. 9. Jason, Kevin, Waleed 10. Ken, Eduardo, Clint 11. Elli, Tyler, Evan 12. Nataly, Jessica, Madura. After talking to several players I believe the best course of action would be to have two groups of 6. This will give a wider variety of competition for everyone. Tier rotations will take place every 6th week - week 6, week 11 and week 16. During the first rotation, only one team will move. On the second and third rotation , two teams will move. I'll post a schedule later today.
