in case it is not clear, Chris Thomas cannot update the "Ottawa - Friday Nights" chart for week 5 - October 4 unless he gets results for all 18 players in a form or another, chart or team/player placement list -- right after the match I posted only the first 3

from postings during the past week there seemed to be a consensus that charts were needed to enter more data into elsewhere, Chris T concurred, Jon volunteered to resume that task, Chris A was also mentioned, and it was suggested the chart be gathered by one of them (not necessarily in that sequence)
consequently I could no longer take them home to post results, last Friday Jon had left thus Chris A was the designated chart-holder, in my mind at least -- when I left I showed/left the chart with him

there

I'll give it a go....

Jon-Mary, Gid-Julian, Steve-Dan(1), Vern-Taha(2), Belal-Casti, Merv-Waleed(3), Jesse-Chris A, Manny-Ellie, ....looks like I'm missing 1 team if there were 18. Anyone know who's missing?

BTW, Vern and Taha are both at 18 points, not 19, so we have a 4-way tie for 4th

RE: Syracuse Points Race - Jester - 07-Oct-2013

^ seems right to me. Your only missing the new player team that went 0-2

As an aside, we need a cut off time for the draw, 9 oclock or 9:15 works nicely. People shouldn't be added to the draw after, it screws with the sheet. Merv also raised a good point, if we have 17 players the person who arrived 17th has to wait, its not fair to people who showed up on time to have to wait. In addition the 2nd chance system we have going right now (first team thats eliminated one of their players gets to play with the odd man out), im all for making sure everyone gets to play but with the points race ongoing second chances are a little unfair in the race. Dunno how to fix but theoretically if Waleed didn't show up last week Jon would have had a 2nd chance to play (and with Merv as a partner Tongue).

RE: Syracuse Points Race - garbaggio - 07-Oct-2013

It's not going to be possible to enter the chart from Friday into netfoos or any other system because the draw started with 4 simultaneous games and forgot about the 9th team, and we had to shoehorn Merv's team into the draw on both the winners and the losers side. The top 3 are known. Do we need anything else?

Taha

shits happens, especially when providing care and feeding to all

are you saying that Jon and Mary were out first? at least two other teams were out 2-0

Merv showed up 17th no, correction:15th

RE: Syracuse Points Race - garbaggio - 07-Oct-2013

2 teams were out 2-0. One of the teams was a team of 2 total beginners. I felt it would be unfair to pair Merv with one of them. So we decided we'd toss a coin when the loser of Jon/Mary and Manny/Elli was known. When the match was done, I did the coin toss, and it turned out to be Jon, but then it was pointed out that Waleed had shown up a few minutes before and had been asked if he wanted to play and had said yes. So Merv was paired with Waleed. Extra 5$ in the draw. Everyone happy, except Merv who could have been paired with Jon, but oh well.

Taha

RE: Syracuse Points Race - 5barwarrior - 07-Oct-2013

1. Dan P and Steve
2. Vern and Taha
3. Merv and Waleed
4. Manny and Elli
5. Jesse and Chris A.
6. Belal and Casti
7. Gid and Julian
8. Jon and Mary
9. Newb1 and Newb2

So we had two newbies that were paired together? Were they buddies that wanted to play together or were they drawn together? Did anyone get their names? Did anyone talk to them?

RE: Syracuse Points Race - 5barwarrior - 07-Oct-2013

Here are the stats.

1 - Jon
2 - Gid
3 - Steve
4-7th - Belal, Taha, Vern, Packer

RE: Syracuse Points Race - rustyspurs - 07-Oct-2013

The draw although mixed up was done fairly. If we followed are rules the way we should Merv would have been paired with a newbie. As it was we gave him Waleed and flipped on the placement in the chart. More than fair. He was not going to be paired with Jon unless we broke our own rules twice. Not happening.
Taha, Gid, and I witnessed the flips.
We work for the greater good of the group not individuals. It is time for people to show up on time and quit messing with the system. Taha and Gid did a splendid job and are totally upfront in their methods. As soon as you start organizing any event for a larger group you soon realize that you cannot please everyone so do it for the greater good.

RE: Syracuse Points Race - 5000 Years Old Man - 07-Oct-2013

done then

Chris, on Friday this week, do you want me to take the form home and enter results immediately, as I had been doing for a while, or... ?

Taha, thanks for the work to accommodate last Friday's exceptions

Ali and Y---- had come (late) before and had been recommended to show up Fridays 8:30-9:00, as it was they got there ~ 9:15

RE: Syracuse Points Race - Doubledipper - 07-Oct-2013

Is it only the top three placing team/dyp that get extra points? 4th to last gets two?

RE: Syracuse Points Race - 5000 Years Old Man - 07-Oct-2013

right

RE: Syracuse Points Race - 5000 Years Old Man - 07-Oct-2013

Given that now the race is almost over and there are at least 10 players with a reasonable chance to make it into the top 4, it is my opinion that for the next two Friday DYPs we should relax our good intentions of accommodating all; rather right now we need to tighten up enforcement and rules dealing with the troublesome aspects of late arrivals.

Some have already contributed to these rules, I urge all to put forth more contributions, in agreement or otherwise to the extreme, but only if you can do so right away.

1) Registration is the responsibility of players:
-- Cut-off is 9:00. By 9:01 only those registered will participate in the draw.
-- Pre-registration can still be arranged, however they must be accompanied by reasonable, firm and precise time of arrival, that is to say if you can’t make before 9:30 or you are not sure then you are out, it’s not the end of the world.
-- If the registration or pre-registration does not reach whomever is running the draw then you are out, it’s not the end of the world.

2) If the number of registrations is odd then the "odd man" is the last name drawn.

3) If there is no odd man then no late players are added after the draw has started.

4) If there is an odd man then:
-- If one more player shows up before playing starts then whomever that is, that is the partner for the odd man.
-- If playing has started then nobody is added, the partner for the odd man will be one of the players of the first team out, and which of the two is such partner will be determined randomly by coin toss – after all everybody else have in fact been assigned partners randomly just the same.

Too often attempts to accommodating everybody have been producing complications, delays, and grief.

We all have our other commitments, for the two weeks left only those that can make it on time need to show up.

I’m more than happy to show up on time, do as I’m told, and just play.

For unrelated reasons, most likely I won’t be present for week 7.

That's perfect and fair!
