RE: 2015 Ottawa Foosball Championships - June 5th - 7th - 5barwarrior - 04-Feb-2015 I would use the swiss system instead of your round robin stage. It is better because it is auto correcting for rank and such. You can then take the top 8 players for open, the next 8 for SP and the remainder for Amateur playoffs. Biggest challenge would be the find the right software to drive it. I have some tournament software. I'll check what it can do and bring it tonight. As for expalining it to players, we can draft something up that makes it clear. RE: 2015 Ottawa Foosball Championships - June 5th - 7th - Jester - 04-Feb-2015 I wasn't doing Round Robin for certain, it was just one of the options listed. I will talk to Chris A and Casti tonight at foos. With a 2 page flier your right though it shouldn't be difficult explaining it. Rob will be passing some FAST software (I think it's FAST?) on to Jesse shortly that uses the Swiss system. RE: 2015 Ottawa Foosball Championships - June 5th - 7th - Jester - 04-Feb-2015 Thanks. RE: 2015 Ottawa Foosball Championships - June 5th - 7th - PACKER - 05-Feb-2015 Love the poster! I like the red version as well. I'm pumped for this event and will help out wherever you need me. I've got some ideas for promotion, and getting swag for the merch table. RE: 2015 Ottawa Foosball Championships - June 5th - 7th - deliverance - 05-Feb-2015 Hey guys, remember when I said I am working on some software for this, I shit you not it's well no it's way and I have a team of 3 of us now building this. I have 2 domains registered, we will have working tournament software that we can use for this tournament too if you want. I am in the process currently of determining what I need in terms of possible formats (think not just foos, this can be any kind of event): - single elim - double elim - RR groups - Swiss - ETC?? what is the ETC RE: 2015 Ottawa Foosball Championships - June 5th - 7th - SilentSam - 06-Feb-2015 ETC = Sean Lee style double elim RE: 2015 Ottawa Foosball Championships - June 5th - 7th - PACKER - 09-Feb-2015 I played a Handicapped DYP here in Calgary that was pretty interesting. I'm not exactly sure how the math worked but teams were ranked and depending on the difference between the two teams, the higher ranked team had to get more goals than the lower ranked team, in the second game. For instance, my team was ranked 9.5, and our opponents were ranked 11, so based on whatever equation they use, they determined that the higher ranked team had to get 6 goals in the second game (the other games were normal at 5 goals each). At one point we were matched up against a team that was ranked 4, and it meant that we had to get 7 goals in the 1st and 3rd games, and 8 goals in the second. It made it very interesting and we lost the first game! we switched and I went up front and lit it up shooting 14 long pulls in a row then ended the match with a slingshot set up from pull position haha. It was awesome. Anyways, the handicapped DYP can work and would be a cool option. It definitely evens the playing field and makes for an interesting DYP. RE: 2015 Ottawa Foosball Championships - June 5th - 7th - Jester - 09-Feb-2015 Handicap is good for local stuff but at our big tournaments I don't wan't to handicap events because it requires your system to be spot on and can create a lot of complaints. We have different ranks and different doubles events to take care of that. RE: 2015 Ottawa Foosball Championships - June 5th - 7th - garbaggio - 10-Feb-2015 There are other ways to make the DYP a bit more even. You can do a pro-am. I also once suggested a simplified version of a handicapped DYP where players either had a 0, 1 or 2 "rating". The ratings can loosely be based on tier (tier 3 = 0, tier 2 = 1, tier 1 = 2). The team with the lower rating needed less goals (based on the difference in combined rating). So two players with 2 ranking playing against two players with 0 ranking means that the two players with 0 ranking only need 1 goal. Really have to be on your toes! Taha |
