RE: Syracuse Update - SNAKEBITE - 06-Apr-2009

well that was def the best foos i have ever seen. Seeing Tony S playing live is def a trip. Def learned a ton of new stuff and trick shots during those 1 - 5 am sessions. The one thing i wish i knew going in was you NEED a working second shot and pass. quick euros were key and i forced myself to learn a close wall stick to be able to contend. Sorry for bailing on am doubles Thomas but the matches werent being call quick enough. pumped for ott tourney

i'll have to pick your brain on some of those trick shots... that's my bag baby! love that stuff...

RE: Syracuse Update - Paul - 06-Apr-2009

ya....I really hope that first sentence is referring to matches and not pick-up games. Tongue

Paul Wrote:Too bad "Tips" took so long to call out matches, alot of sitting around, doing nothing. Sunday was especially rough for this, since we had to checkout at 11am, and thus had no place to relax between matches.
Sadly, sometimes this can't be avoided @ tournaments...conflicts keep shit slow a lot of the times...when you've got awesome players like Audrey who are deep in like 5 events...she can't play all of her matches @ the same time, thus holding up the rest of the bracket.

Paul Wrote:I don;t think I could ever see myself going to another 3-day tournament. too much foos. by the end of the second day I was just too tired to play, and the third day was the beginner events, which at that point I couldn't have cared less about. All in all, Foosball should be a fun pass-time. I'm looking forward to league play, and 1-day tournaments not hosted by Tips.
An easy alternative to avoiding the tournament is to play less events...just a thought. Smile
We'll talk more about it when we see each other @ TailGators...I may or may not show up on Wednesday...

yea, if I went again I wouldn't play all the events. I'd show up for one day when 2-3 events I wanted to play were being played and that's it. I doubt I'll be there on wednesday man, but I'll see you next monday most likely; doubt I can stay away for that long Big Grin

And this means waiting even longer.

From organizing point of view I have nothing bad to say. Nothing at all!

RE: Syracuse Update - Pixel - 06-Apr-2009

My highlights:
Playing Tony in OS.
Holy shit, awesome match. I did NOT expect that it would last as long as it did. We went to 5th game, 5-3. It's one thing to see that he's fast on videos...but on the table, in real-time, when you're trying to react...riiiiidiculous. I got lucky and managed to block both his 5 and 3 for a decent percentage. Near the end of the match, he started absolutely bricking my 5, so the only reason I was able to get to that 5th game was by scoring the majority of my goals in the last 2 games from my 2 bar....I'm pretty sure they were all sprays. Tongue

4th in OD w/ Audrey!
How does this crazy shit happen? I don't know...I've seen stranger things happen I suppose. Merv passing wall...Gid missing a squeeze shot...but this was rather unprecedented. DEFO passing all credit to Audrey near the late end of this event, especially when we knocked out Santomassimo (Promaster?) and Brian Guiana (Pro) to get to 4th...she BRICKED Santomassimo. Hard. I mean, the guy had like 20 consecutive shots at one point, with no one other than him and Audrey touching the ball. He was a mental train wreck (those were his own words).
Our next match was against Victor Lam and Joe Caraffa, two great NY players. Victor and I owe massive moneys to both our goalies for blocking both of us so well. Pretty sure Joe kept me down to about 30%, while Audrey kept Victor down to about 35% (obv., that 5% made a difference). Victor has an incredibly smoot pull shot, and a great 5-bar. In my mind, this was my worst-played match of all weekend...I could not seem to adjust to Victor's 5-bar D or Joe's snake D. After talking to them about it after, I realized my mistakes, and will learn from them...I'll know for next time. Smile They ended up placing 2nd to Tony and Amedio...and after watching Joe block Tony for a relatively high percentage for the first few games, I didn't feel quite so bad. Smile

no, it means I'd be there for 1 day instead of 3.

RE: Syracuse Update - Mannen the Cannon - 07-Apr-2009

Hey, was that little kid playing foos against Paul picture real? I thought it was just photoshop'd but having read through these posts more thoroughly it sounds as if that kid was actually playing at the tournament. What is he some kind of foosball protege or something? He looks like he's 8!

RE: Syracuse Update - Paul - 07-Apr-2009

he was 9, and he was unbelievably good.

I did wind up beating him that game, but I was shitting bricks. him and some 10 yr old girl beat me and liudas like we werent even there in beginner doubles.

RE: Syracuse Update - Liudas LT - 07-Apr-2009

apparently she is 18, but it doesn't change the fact that her partner was 12 and they did beat the crap out of us...

RE: Syracuse Update - Mannen the Cannon - 07-Apr-2009

wow....that's crazy. It must be a total mind freak for you when it became apparent to you how good he was.
he's like the Doogie Howser of foosball

RE: Syracuse Update - Liudas LT - 07-Apr-2009

yep it does mess up your head big time...

I walked up and thought to myself, sweet, a by. then he won the toss, smoked a sweet pass up to his 3 bar, set up a snake and scored it without even blinking.

I proceeded to shit my pants, buckle up and play the best game of my life to beat him.
