Well we might not have the high end calibre of players like the Mario's, Kane, Sean and Nhu in Ottawa but we have lots of experts and amateurs and we would love to get to play against some of those guys and your amateur and experts would be given a run for their money by a plurality of players up here.

Jesse, I love the idea and the initiative, but I think we need to work together with those outside of eastern Canada as well in order to get a fully integrated Canadian framework together. The points system that we started this year was a fantastic start, as it (at least in Toronto and Quebec) really got people coming out to the monthly tournaments, and especially the regionals (I know that Ottawa had at least one of those). Given the current points system setup, there's 4 per region, so we could definitely work in a couple in Toronto and a couple in Ottawa, as you were suggesting, and as was intended.

There are, as many have noticed, several flaws with the current points race system that we had setup. We hope to adjust it for the better this year. It really needs to start taking into account the calibre and number of players at each tournament in order to become relatively accurate for comparing players across Canada. And if its main purpose is going to be to judge players on a multi-table basis for France (Championships / World Cup), then I'd even maybe suggest some kind of weighting for the type of table that the tournament is played on. Though, I suppose for the World Championships at least, each player is allowed to pick their own table, so it wouldn't really matter...hmmm. In any case, I'm just spitballing.

We've just recently incorporated TSAC as an official Not-For-Profit, with Chris Thomas, Julien, and Terri at the helm on the founding Board of Directors, and with the existing officers (Will Stranks, Eric Dunn, et al) still intact. We hope to have great things starting up in the upcoming year that will work to promote and grow the game in Canada - but it will only work if everyone communicates and works together.

I would expect a vote in the next couple of months to decide on officially elected Directors and Officers (e.g., President, secretary, treasurer, etc).

This ^ is great, the spitballing is all I was really looking for, I feel like the report between Canadian players is weak right now and just communicating like you said is the key to things succeeding. I don't have access to TSAC at work but il check it when I get home tnt. I would be interested in getting involved with TSAC if there is a position available.

The modifications to the points system you mentioned such as weighting tournaments and the calibre of players is very important.

All I wanted was instead of Toronto and Ottawa hosting their own tournaments that go towards TSAC points, the two cities do it together. The benefits of that are:
1) Bigger tournaments, higher payouts, more competition
2) Less stress on tournament coordinators in both cities because the ammount of tournaments they will be responsible for will be cut in half (or something like that) because both cities will be contributing

It would also be easier to figure out Team Ontario for each rank if ever more than 8 want to be on a given team. Though, so far, there was always a spot for those that went. We have more than enough to field all three teams is why ranking could also be handy.

RE: 2013 Eastern Canada Points - Jester - 14-Nov-2012

Yeah we only fielded one team this year and could have fielded 2 I think with a bit more coordination and maybe 1 more player.

RE: 2013 Eastern Canada Points - SteveZ - 14-Nov-2012

Yeah, two years ago two teams and surprisingly 17 GTA players at the NAC. So, it's possible there will be years when more than 18 players want to represent Ontario. Each rank has potential to field killer teams too. We'd be foolish not to lol. I think two subs are possible per team, so the odds are against 24 from Ontario going, but it would be cool.

Jesse - glad to hear you're interested in taking an active role Smile There will be a lot of work to do!

Good good good. TSAC should use skype to have conference calls, on like Sunday nights or something.

RE: 2013 Eastern Canada Points - subculture - 15-Nov-2012

This discussion is all good, and like Mario says, let's try to build momentum on the National level by supporting it locally (with great ideas like on this thread).

The points race WILL be updated more regularly in the future, and is now updated on the site:
http://tablesoccerca.ning.com/page/current-points

We are having a 'prep team Canada' event on Dec 2nd/3rd @ Teamplay where the format and focus will be around ITSF tables, and getting the 5 team canada members attending (Mario, Nhu, Laurent, Biggie and I) a chance to practice, compete and share table knowledge. This is NOT a full-fledged tournament or OD/OS, and there will be no commitment to run or complete any formal events, but anyone is welcome to come hang-out and play a little.

As the ITSF players won't be using the Tornado tables, there can be a non-conflict separate Tornado event, but keep in mind there are only 2 Tornado tables.

On the friday however Dec 1st, we'll try to have a big DYP - we might just use Fireball and Tornado for this night.

Any of the above details MIGHT change Smile

RE: 2013 Eastern Canada Points - Jester - 20-Nov-2012

So are we going to get something like this going for next year? Dates should be picked soon if so.
We can include Quebec if their interested, as much as integrating our points system is important, I think emphasis should also be putting on running at least 2-3 tournys next year that draw between 50-100 players and have at least a $2000 prize pool or more.
