Why isn't foosball an Olympic event? - Byron - 27-Jul-2012
I think that foosball should be an Olympic event. Is there a petition out there trying to get into the Olympics? Is there someone to e-mail and request? What do you all think?

just to put things in perspective, Table Tennis started trying to get into the Olympics in 1932, and didn't actually get in until 1988. I think we've got a long road ahead of us...

Fixed that Admin thing.
No Byron, you don't smell. It's just this topic has been beaten to death on other boards.
Basically the International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) was formed for the purpose of getting foosball into the Olympics. They started having World Championships and World Cups, (requirements for Olympics) They sanctioned 5 tables that countries would have to play on: Fireball, Bonzini, Garlando, Roberto Sport and Leonhart. Tornado used to be in there but backed out (most people presume because of the financial requirements).
They also established a common rule set for all the tables. This is why we place the ball on the table instead of serving it thought the hole. The reason - not all tables have holes. The rule set was based on the USTSA rules for the Tornado.
So, people are working on it.

good to hear, just watching the Olympics and this is what kinda irked me. They have sports in the Olympics and foosball would fit in just like they do. Hope to see it happen in my life time.

I've always said this:
If ballroom dancing can become a demonstration sport in the Olympics, then anything should be allowed in.
I'm still pretty pissed that rodeo kayaking still isn't a sport.

Ballroom dancing working its way into the Olympics. It all started with Synchronized Swimming; now, as long as the lobby is strong enough anything goes.
About Standing, is there an Olympic event for Standing? Competitive Eating perhaps?

Ok, well I am going to wait on that big day when I am old and grey, foosball will be a olympic sport. Screw the Greeks if they don't like it.

Ancient Olympic events emulated skills required for warfare. And except for a race that had men wearing armour and carrying shields the ancient Greeks competed in the nude -- don’t get those ancient Greeks mad at you
