Final week + expected matchups? - deliverance - 20-Feb-2013

What are the matchups tonight, what are the scenarios on who plays top half versus lower half playoff? Is it based on only the results since the last tier adjustments?

I can't speak to when I was away, but we beat IGYSRH and Steve's team I believe, and only took very marginal loss (on goals I believe) to Gid's team.

Basically, what are the possible outcomes for teams on the cusp, and who plays who tonight.

I need to talk with Dan. Tonight was intended as a tie breaker week in the event there was a close race for first. Other than that we might want to put other teams against each other that have missed each other the whole league, Jesse vs. Gid, is a good example.

Stay tuned.

well...

it's a playoff, it's an half playoff, it's not, this format, no this other is better, NHL... -- what is a grumpy old man supposed to do

I can't stay tuned -- my stove conked out

So last night there was a lot of discussion about the conclusion of this year's winter league. Last night was a fun league night with random matches for all teams and apparently next week is the start of Playoffs. My problem is that WINTER leagues are always 16 weeks, as posted by Chris at the top of the League section titled "2012 Winter League Official Thread". It clearly states that the duration of the league consists of 16 weeks + 1 mid season DYP + 1 week Playoffs. I don't think it's fair to simply end league one week early so we can avoid a possible tie, almost every year we end up in a tie somewhere and we handle it accordingly. Really what organization would choose to end the season early to avoid a tie!?! If Frank is in 1st and we are in 2nd in the running, we could have potentially beaten them having a 2 way tie for 1st, same thing for 3rd and 4th etc. Now not only have we taken away the chances for teams to get their stats up but we have erased the possibly of players fighting for a chance to gain a higher seed for the playoffs, which for me as a competitive player believe that week to be just as competitive as the Playoffs themselves! Remember this is WINTER league not summer. I know we only had one week left and we would not have been able to do a full rotation, some may argue that is unfair in it's self but we have to draw the line somewhere and cutting out the last week of the season just doesn't seem right.

However I'll be fine with whatever outcome, as it stands Frank's team is in 1st place and has been for longer than any other team this season. If they are already deemed the winners than let me be the first to congratulate them on a very solid season! We have needed a team like this for a while in league!

I did find it unfortunate that we weren't given the opportunity to best Family B4 Foos (a.k.a, Tits on JP's Frank). Considering that we're having a bye for the first round of playoffs, we did have an opportunity to play a tiebreaker if needed during that slot.

Clearly there was a miss-communication on what was supposed to happen last night. It was not supposed to be a "fun" night. Fb4F was meant to play PLA to determine league winners including a provision for a tie breaker if necessary.

I need to talk with Dan. Will post something later.

We just played PLA two weeks ago (and Packer's team last week).

Fb4F would be due to play Merv's team as a matter of course....

Except that see what Chris wrote above.

You guys will have time to resolve it this upcoming Wed. since you have a bye while the matchups are being determined for who plays 1 & 2.

Hello All:

Just spoke with Dan and it is clear that I failed to explain things properly. My apologies, especially to Fb4F and PLA. I have a solution that I would like to discuss with those two teams.

Last nights match ups do not affect the playoffs with respect to tier selections. I'll double check how this would affect seeding.

Regards

Chris

I'm also if not mainly to blame for Wednesday night. I understood that this week was for fun and the matchups were to allow teams to play those that they havn't had a chance to yet. We'll figure it out for next week. Sorry for messing that up

no no no no... this is so wrong

anybody who steps up and helps out never needs to apologize

if anybody, then all others who did not should

got a few lines here, any wisdom in them has to be digged out:

"only way not to make mistakes is to do nothing in the first place"

"I hate to waste time feeling guilty for nothing"

"no good deed remains unpunished -- do it anonymously then you cannot get punished for it"

"It's never wrong nor bad to do a good deed -- someone will always benefit, but it won't be you"

"good guys always win -- in the movies"

"I'd do good deeds more often if the reward instead of Good Karma were Kama Sutra...."

I could go on... damned overrated experience, you only get it after you needed it
