Syracuse Points Race - 5barwarrior - 02-Sep-2013 Hello Foosers: The North Eastern Championship (NY State) is our closest US tournament and is generally well attended by OFA. This year, the tournament is running a points race and awarding 4 prizes for each participating foosball community. Needless to say we signed up right away. So, for the next 7 weeks on Friday nights all of our DYP results will count towards the point race for Syracuse. Here are the prizes descriptions: Quote:5) Prizes for each player base are One (1) VIP All Inclusive Player Pass to include all tournament entry fees, hotel accommodations and all food & beverages. Three (3) Registration Fees valued at $50 each. Equal chance at the VIP Player Pass for the top 4 point finishers of each race!! Sounds awesome right!?!?! Maybe finally we can get Gid to go to a tournament and dominate people with his squeeze!!! Here are all the details: Quote:1) The Race will take place over 7 weeks from Monday, September 2nd through Sunday, October 20th. Your player base / local points race coordinator determines which night of the week your event is held. We need to know by Sunday night, September 1st, which groups want to participate, which night of the week the event will be held, and who the coordinator will be. RE: Syracure Points Race - Jester - 03-Sep-2013 Gonna be sweet! Im going to be taking care of tracking the points and will keep them updated weekly. RE: Syracure Points Race - 5000 Years Old Man - 03-Sep-2013 Friday straight DYPs, and during September the draw would include the students of the promotional drive -- correct? Syracure Points Race - 5barwarrior - 03-Sep-2013 Yes. It is a two for one special. RE: Syracure Points Race - Jester - 03-Sep-2013 We don't have to run DYP's either, if we have the numbers we can, if not we can do a singles bracket. I think it would be nice to do a rotation, Singles, DYP, BYP, Singles, DYP, BYP, Singles (7 weeks) or in some other order. Students are welcome for all. RE: Syracure Points Race - 5000 Years Old Man - 03-Sep-2013 keeping it predictably simple, that is dyp, might be better then again I'm just a grumpy old man that does not like changes RE: Syracure Points Race - Jester - 03-Sep-2013 Im all for simplicity, but what benefit does having only DYP have? Id rather not have my chances of making it into the top 4 to be determined by 100% random draft. Not to mention that we don't play enough singles in Ottawa and were are trying to prepare for a tournament where half the events are singles. Singles is a completely different beast than doubles, the game plan for each changes. RE: Syracure Points Race - deliverance - 03-Sep-2013 I kind of agree with that sentiment. Of the people who stand to go to Syracuse, say: Vern, Merv, Jon, Casti, Jesse, Dan P, Steve, Thomas?, Chris T, Taha ... you'd want the top 4 to be determined more fairly than a random draw. I want the chance to win it by either submitting a team or playing singles as well. If you show up and you don't have a partner, it's pretty easy to form teams based on who is there, and then once the elimination happens, you can take a choice of one of those two players if there happened to be a odd number of people or someone who didn't get paired up. RE: Syracure Points Race - 5barwarrior - 03-Sep-2013 We can do singles but one problem is for the student promo in September. I've already published material indicating doubles. We can swap in a BYP a couple of times to mix things up. We can do singles in Oct. The previous points race proved that those that continuously showed up will be at the top of the standings. Given that they are pro-rating the points based on rank, you can beat Merv or Taha. RE: Syracure Points Race - 5000 Years Old Man - 03-Sep-2013 If this is meant to get and help out better players going to Syracuse then I'd recommend BYP and Singles RE: Syracure Points Race - Jester - 03-Sep-2013 ^^^^^ RE: Syracure Points Race - 5000 Years Old Man - 03-Sep-2013 Singles is certainly the best measure to determine who's best at Singles. For Doubles though it is not that simple. For doubles BYP has the advantage of pairing players that want to be -- or at least have settled for -- playing together, a lot like a marriage. Essentially determining merit as a team, this stands up better if the same pair later on will be playing together -- at Syracuse in this instance. Not entirely the best approach, it might very well be the most practical regardless of collaterals as very timely hinted here for an unrelated event: (03-Sep-2013, 03:16 PM)Jester Wrote:(03-Sep-2013, 01:53 PM)garbaggio Wrote: Our team is Chris/Frank/Taha. What would be best for Doubles is RYP, that is Rotate Your Partner. This is only possible in a closed system and/or a captive players' population. Say you have 10 players and want a measure of their individual worth playing doubles: 9 matches where each player will be playing paired with each of the others only once. With DYP to get the same measure of validity you would need many many more matches to weed out the random distortion. And that's the way it is. RE: Syracure Points Race - Stavros - 03-Sep-2013 This is why we need a way of ranking OFA players individually based on performance over time. It meant for people to get excited about the tourney and to be a promo tool for the local players base. Here is the comment from the person who created the point race: Quote:Each player base needs to have a designated local points race coordinator as the primary contact for the race. We hope the format will be used as a tool to promote interest in your local areas and help generate buzz for the Championships. Some great VIP prizes have been allotted to help the cause. This is not intended for us to try and ensure the "interested" parties get a free ride to Syracuse. Right now we are doing DYPs on Friday nights and I don't have any immediate plans to change that. I've already put effort into promoting the September Student drive and don't want to mess with that. RE: Syracure Points Race - deliverance - 04-Sep-2013 But the benefit is a full VIP package per group that participates, plus 3 free registrations. The goal isn't to help out better players from going to Syracuse, but it's enabling the top 4 finishers to be in a draw for the grand prize, and then the entire pool gets 3 entries also awarded. This will give people more incentive to consider going to attend that event. |
