Rookie Singles Friday Night. - 5barwarrior - 03-Sep-2008

Hello All:

A concern was raised by an out of town player about having Rookie Singles on Friday night. The concern was that they would not be coming down on Friday and would be arriving on Saturday and that they wouldn't be able to play in RS. They mentioned that not that many matches would be played on Friday night anyway because of the DYP, so there was no real benefit of running the event then.

That may be true but there is also the fact that there is 6 main events now at the tournament: OS, OD, ES, ED, RS, RD. If were to try and run those only on the Saturday and Sunday we would run into longer delays due to conflicts and table availability.

So the question is - Do we move RS off of Friday night?

Chris

Though unfortunate as it is, I'm going to have to vote to leave it on Friday night. This is one of those cases where the higher events should take precedence over lower ones, especially since a good chunk of the higher ranked players are from out of town. It's one of the few incentives of achieving a higher rank...it gives us youngins somethin to shoot for. Wink

Besides, if it's just one/two players, we could still play a good chunk of the bracket on Friday night.

Ya I agree, not sure it would be a good idea to already be delayed by Saturday morning. The DYP will also be running into Saturday, most likely.

OK, that is two "Ottawa" players speaking out. What about some out of town players. What are your opinions?

It doesn't matter to me.

Well im gonna be coming from montreal with my brother and we think it would be better to play it friday night. Since the tournaments always tend to last longer than planned, it would be easier for us if at least that event starts sooner so we have time to come back home not too late after the tourny.
thanks.

I will be planning on comming from Syracuse NY and wanted to play in the DYP and RS.

If you dont have RS on friday then there may be players that do not have access to find out that it was changed....

Also the players that have planned on going for both DYP and RS will then have a down time with out any events to play..

You could fill in with GW or FSO or similar type funzy game but think that adding RS to saturdays list of events would just interfer too much..

If it was a bus load of players like 20 + players then YES

but only 1 or 2 then Id go ahead with flier ...

I have been to many tournaments and have missed key events only to play in what I was able to because of MY own schedule..

Sorry to have any player miss it but what can you do??
Arriving late is one thing that can be worked with, but a day late ??

We are going to leave it as the flier indicates. There wasn't enough of a response to warrant the change.
