Winter League - Week 6
#46
6 and 6 is unfair, there is a major gap between the top 7 and the bottom 5

but of course there are somewhat lesser gaps everywhere

reality gets in the way of the most obstinate efforts to adjust it
just play it out

saw the example chart you did Packer, and i thought of things as unbiased as i could..... have to say, i'm in favour of leaving things as they are. i think 3 tiers works better overall. both your team and gid's team can beat anyone on a given night. just last week, gid's team beat merv's team... so if his team stays up in the next rotation, and your team does its part in tier 2, you guys will finally play each other!

in tier 3, these are people who are battling just to maintain possession of the ball in their zone, and trying to work on having any consistent shot -- let alone having to deal with defending a snake before they are ready. I can say this because i yo-yo'd between tier 2 and 3 for a couple years (which works out to about 6 seasons) when i played with the newbs... there's a marked difference. Tier 3 really is just for fun. In tier 2, you face teams that are practicing their snake shot, and starting to use mind games and the intimidation factor... stuff that tier 3 isn't always ready for, and in fact can be an obstacle for newbies to continue coming out for next season.

trust me on that.

I dont see how this change would benefit one team, let alone ours in particular. I simply responded to the 2 tier suggestion by putting a clear proposal out there on the forum for discussion. I wouldnt be this involved in the league if I had a selfish agenda. Please note that anything I do for the league has the intention of benefitting the league as a whole

The flip flopping sucks but im still of the mindset that the three tier system is best. Its less complicated than the proposed 2tiers and gives less chance for teams of great skill difference to have to face each other.

I agree with JP. That there are three types of players (skill levels), so the three tiers work best.

at each league the participating players and team composition change; at start the league and tiers structure have to be tweaked accordingly

the current setup is a pretty good fit including the initial placing of teams, fair as reasonably possible, all is left is to to play it out and enjoy, it is seldom a good idea to change rules after games start

as you know Dan it is impossible to please all, as well comments are not always meant as criticism

keep in mind that criticizing is much easier than doing and don't worry much

do what is reasonable and know that you, Jesse -- and others to a lesser extent -- having filled in for what should be a temporary absence by the Organizer are keeping league and dyps going
