Summer League - Doubles Format
#1
Hello Foosers:

With two person teams there are several options we can do with the format. Here are some options to think about and discuss.

Note - All games are to 7 except the 2/3 doubles, same as before

Format One - Team Format
Games - 2/3 doubles, 1 Single, 1 Specialty, 1 Roto, maybe 1 2-Ball
Two Matches a night - (ie you play team A first, then team B)
Concerns - # of teams will affect the rotation/opponent selection (ie tiers, round robin...)

Format Two - Double and Singles
Games - 2/3 Doubles, 2 x Singles to 7
3-4 Matches a night (ie you play many teams)
Concerns - Do you keep the Singles and Doubles separate? (ie individual standings and rankings) Or are your single opponents dependent on your double opponents?

Other formats?

Other concerns is I would like a format that:
1) there can be easy weekly prizes.
2) new teams can join any week (ie walk ups) without screwing things up.
3) low maintenance.

Throw out your ideas.

Myself, Stu, Erin, and Chelsey pick whichever format will allow people to leave at 10:30pm.

if you're worried about leaving earlier, why not make the start time earlier? instead of 8, make it 7.

that's not to say people can't stay and play money games/pickup or whatever afterwards... but the game sheet shouldn't go longer than 2 and a half hours. I think that is plenty of time for a) new players, and b) for a weeknight.

Hell if any of us goes to ScotiaBank Place to watch a Sens game or music concert, they are done in about the same amount of time. It's not so unreasonable. I think it can be done.

and if we play 1 or two less games because of it, then maybe we can add an extra wednesday at the end of the season to compensate.

both Christelle and Mary have declined to play because it was too long of a night when they came out to spare last season.

something to consider anyway....

Really with 4 tables there is no problem with finishing BEFORE 10:30... even in the bigger winter league with 3 tables those in tiers with two teams/tier were finished by then.
provided we do start around 8:00 or shorthly after...
who are Christelle and Mary, and where do you find all these people?

(christelle and mary showed up to spare one week, when we were situated by the punching machine and drunk people kept coming over to prove their might -- that was the week Chris Thomas kept unplugging the machine)
