if you are tied with your opponent at the end of the night: I was thinking that it might be fun for the tie-breaker to be a little more active... not passive like Goals For/Goals Against.
Just wanted to gauge if there was any appetite to add a really quick NHL-style shootout at the end of the night for teams that are tied in points on that night's game sheet.
End of the night, both teams tied - proposed scenario:
Just like the NHL, there would be 3 shots (i.e. each team member shoots once - forward shootout style). Whoever has the most goals wins.
At the very least, i feel this is better than winning by simple GF/GA when the sheet is tied at the end of the night. Imagine if you are tied with your opponent at the end of a really competitive night and you "lose" because they scored just one more goal than you. Does that really mean they are the better team?
Anyone see a problem with doing a quick forward shootout? Or propose a better solution? I wouldn't want to add another game at the end, because the night is already long enough as it is... a quick shootout would only take a couple of moments.
[Additional notes: 1) defending team can choose their goalie during the shootout; 2) if tied after 3 shooters, sudden death forward shootout; 3) Three team members are required for the shootout - If you've played the sheet with only 2 team members because someone didn't show and you guys are tied at the end of the night, the night is decided by GF/GA.]
it's all about improving the league... if status quo is best, then so be it. Who's open to a little fun change? I think it's kind of a neat idea.... at least it's a bit more dramatic than winning based on simple GF/GA.
