Summer League - Info and Poll
#1
Hello Foosers:

Summer league will run from July 6th to August 31. That will give us 9 weeks again, 8 for league and one for playoffs.

The big question is to keep the format the same or to change things up. We could do a Doubles league with a limit of 24 players or keep things the same.

So post your opinions. We'll make a decision by the end of the week.

I'm open to either but I enjoy the 3-man format more. Allows for more types of games, and a chance to give the ole' spine a rest.

I agree. 3 man teams give you a bit more rest time, but I'm fine either way.

If you can figure out 2 man teams by July i'm down for that too. In that case, I'll be open to find a partner for 2's.

I'd say plan for a 3-man league, and only do 2-man if the numbers deem it necessary.

also, if the format is up for debate; I seem to remember when I first came out that we had 3 man teams and every night we'd play 2 different teams on condensed sheets... that was pretty cool and I dunno if it was just the waiting that turned us off that, but for an extra 30 mins it might be worth bringing it back, at least up for discussion.

we could certainly try that. It would be the playoff format but doubled.
This would depend on the number of teams and how to set up the tiers (which is the biggest problem with every league).

Maybe I should cap the number of teams again, lets say 12.

that would work perfectly for a double-condensed sheet where 3 teams face eachother.

and maybe do-away with the 3man, unless I'm the only one that hates it.

There are several options for the league:
1) Leave things the same as currently. The sheet would be either the 2 or 3 team format (this is dependent on the number of teams that signs up)
2) 3 person teams with a half sheet and you face two or three opponents. (I would need to think on how to make this work, tiers, ladder, rotational...)
3) Doubles, multiple opponents in a night.

Also we can do weekly prizes or something similar.

I vote for a large group of 2 man teams with multiple teams played a night. This would be fun, keeping the game sheet simple like this could get games moving:

Singles : 2 singles games to 5, both players must play a game
Rollerball : 1 game to 7
Roto : 1 game to 7
Doubles : best of 3, first to 5

Thats 7 games per match, 5-8 minutes per game so things easily wrap up in under an hour or around 45 minutes. At this pace teams can choose to play between 1-4 matches per night based upon how long they can stay and at what time they got there. This format means that team signups need to be limited to x2 table count though and with teams being smaller there may be more than the usual 12.

Either way im looking forward to the summer season, w/e the decision im there.

Okay, so it looks like we'll keep everything the same with 3 person teams.

Start finding teammates!!!
