Learn something new everyday. So "apropos religious performance: comrade" would mean "appropriate religious performance: comrade"? Or am I using the wrong definition?

not at all, those definitions are all appropriate, but it is more like: "talking about a religious performance" "pertinet to a religious performance" "etc."
(if any of these definitions had been 100% I would/might have used that)

(sorry previously I had missed that bit on your post)

regardless and as well, it was apropos the previous post's reference to "a theatre's religious performance" that happened 65 years ago

so even "obsolete" is opportunely fitting
