The List
#16
The list sequenced the pickers, your right, but it directly effects the pickees. Theoretically what Manny is talking about could have happened, and probably will happen in the future (first pick auto choosing the top ranked player).

A system based on statistics is a record of results, but these statistics will allow us to derive rankings from them. I agree that the rankings should not stem directly from the statistics, but them, coupled with input from some of OFA's regulars will provide an excellent foundation, with benchmarks, for how the ranking was decided. Your right, a players skill cannot be purely derived from statistics, but in the end it doesn't really matter how good you are at the game if you can't finish, so they are valuable, but no absolute.

It is a team game and there are many uncalulable variables, a division between singles and doubles would simplify the process, as long as we started playing some singles more. We have all played singles games against foward players who can't stop a shot to save their lives and defence players who can't score to save their life, so I would say that singles rankings would be a better value to evaluate someones overall skills and a doubles ranking would be a better value to evaluate someones specialized skills (forward/defense)

generally agree with the above but single results are way more "right out the box" usable than doubles; doubles' results require much deeper analysis to rend them such

just ask Merv about the partners he can get stuck with Tongue and nobody notices Sad
just in case someone missed it, others alluded around the issue of "sunset" for rankings (ex: "...active players...") old rankings might decay, fresh is best -- I'm using allude as for kind of "brush near, imply, mention indirectly, hint at" -- so now here I'm mentioning it directly

(edited to make it clearer, or so I hope)

lets play!

tonight, tonight...
