Spring League Co-ordinator Needed
#1
Hello All:

Unfortunately I won't be able to return for the spring league. Family commitments are too much at the moment and I'm able to return to foos. May I suggest Frank or Manny or Casti as people who can organize the league.

Also, I think it would be best if OFA were to elect a new president. With my diminished time commitment I am not able to put the right amount of energy into the role that it deserves. This also should happen sooner rather than later. I will continue to deal with the financial situation until the appropriate person has be decided upon, afterwards we'll need to transfer the bank accounts and credit card, and the not-for-profit paperwork.

I want to be clear, this decision has no bearing on foos related manners and is purely a family one.

I'll be around for the entirety of spring league, I can help run things. I'll need a crash course on it.

So Casti is taking care of Spring League, but we still have to address the Presidency.

With this much responsibility and money is on the line we should do this in an organized, systematic fashion. Everyone who pays league fees and pumps loonies into the tables should have their voice heard and have a chance to vote for the new president.

Sorry to hear you have to step down Chris, you get in some deep shit when you went home last night?

I am sad We may need to have an intervention. I hope you take a few days , weeks, and invoke the 48 hour rule and reconsider. For the good of Ottawa foos I think you should recondsider relative to the presidency. As a club we do not have to rush. No one else cares about the club like Chris does. So take your time it may not seem so bleak next week.

I agree with Vern about not rushing anything, take some time Chris, if after a few days you feel the same we will move forward and begin discussion, but at least reconsider, for us Smile

Lots of us care about the club as much as Chris does, its just not everyone is ready for the commitment associated with the job because of financial, family, work, or other prior conditions.

how about a compromise: Chris remains president, but in reality it would be a diminished role, where really he would function in more like a "board of govenors" advisory situation.

Will need to delegate more presidential responsibilities that he currently carries. i.e. financial stuff he mentions above should go to OFA treasurer...(5000 years old man i believe?), etc. etc..

Chris, pls. list some other things you will need to off-load, and we'll find a suitable replacement. Jon, Vern, Titties, etc. have all said in the past they could do something to help out. Let's put it all out there right now and sort this out....

Presidents Role:

1) Count loonies every month and pay the bar - First Wed of the month.
2) Maintain equipment - Easy after tournament - there will be a surplus of parts and the tables won't need replacing for years. We order supplies from Charles at Tornadofoos.com
3) Yearly financial review - balance the books -2-3 hours work, hold meeting
4) League Management - 2-3 hours/week, stats, league set up.
5) Merchandise - Wraps, shirts, jerseys. I'll pass along all the contact info for the various suppliers. FYI we order wraps for Calgary and Quebec foos.
6) Herding Cats - This will depend on everyone, if you all need reminders to show up at 8:00 ready to play, to fill out the sheets, to start your matches, to everything else to finish on time. (There was a reason why I only ever won an event and league in Ottawa was when I wasn't organizing).

It looks daunting, but once you get your head around it, you realize #6 is the most time consuming.

I'll also need to transfer various assests, both digital and physical:
Spare lights, dolleys, laptop,
logos, league stats, email lists, website ...

A more pressing issue is the sale of the two grey marble tables. They are both available now. I am asking $1000 each OBO. This is funding the purchase of the new tables. Once they are sold, the tournament is over and the books are balanced, I'd like to hand over the finances. This should be May time frame.

No diminished role, no board of governor position, I'm done.

Gotta do what's best Chris it's understandable. Much has changed since I ran foosball. I never had to deal with the money aspect. I simply ran standard Vifa league format, made game schedules, collected game sheets and got help from various players to posts stats online, maintained tables ran tournaments and taught newbies and promotion.
The current state of our game requires allot more hands. I think we should have a couple of meetings to discuss everything and figure out the best course of action.

yes i do realize that my good man, however, obviously the time has come for the placeholding to change as titles now have to mean something.

are you willing to manage league finances, including the OFA bank account? as the prez says, it is not the most time-consuming of all the tasks... but i think it is one of the most important. can you handle it?
