Tornado Ramps - Coming to a table near you.
#16
Do you actually think that somebody would stop playing Tornado because of the ramps? Are you kidding me?

lol you should read some of the other forums. Tornado is a temple and it is not to be fucked with. alot of people will quit over this I am sure.

By quit I mean they wont goto tournaments etc; chances are they'll just keep playing on the old tables that they love.

There's too much lateral space on the 2-bar to enable you to get to get to every position in a reasonable time.

You piss off North Americans, your established base, in order to appease European soccer purists. I wonder how many people would take Tornado up because of this change versus how many players already playing Tornado would stop because of it. Do you think it's a net positive?

I fail to see how balls of the back wall are "less predictable" than they are now. The ramps are less than a 10 degree incline - and they're not marred with potholes and random bumps.

They are less predictable because the ball comes in at different speeds and because of backspin. I saw this with the Warrior Table. Because the ball was so grippy and backspins so much, shots that hit the ramp/back wall at different speeds would rebound and hit the back of the men on the 2-bar because of angle changes and go in (especially in singles), or sometimes would jump up and land RIGHT ON the 3-bar, which is just ridiculous.

I wouldn't quite characterize it this way. It's not like this is some new and crazy invention that people are afraid to try. They HAVE tried it, and most don't like it. To me this is like offering a sports car in automatic transmission only. Some people just really like manual transmission even if it has its drawbacks because they consider it to be 'real driving'. Some people think it's stupid to have manual transmission when the car can just shift gears for you... why do the extra work?

In the end people will just use the new table, or not. I just hope the game doesn't lose too many players because of this. Do we know whether this is something is just for ITSF tournaments, or whether this is going to happen to all Tornado factory tables? The ramp does say ITSF on it. I'd be surprised if Tornado stamped ITSF on their tables coming out of the factory.

I would call wing players the freakin AT, because:

A) The only (recognized) table who has it is made in North America
B) It is not that popular in Europe
C) [insert text here...]

One way or the other, I think all of us agree, that this doesn't change much. It's not gonna make good players worse or players like me better. It just makes Tornado one bit more like any other ITSF certified table, yet still allowing it to keep it's main benefits.

Peace!

I was thinking more in terms of the relation to playing features. With MT you have to do more work (say to stop slop goals), but have more control (extra men to position the ball quicker) and more options (passing, defending) and better speed (quicker setups). With AT some of your options are gone (defending, passing, ball setup), but you have less to worry (arguably less slop goals) about and it's easier (less mental stress worrying about where the extra men are), but slower (positioning the ball with the ramp is slower than with an extra man, and there are more dead balls).

The analogy isn't perfect, but I think the point gets across.

Nepean -> St. Laurent -> Kanata
Kanatsa -> St. Laurent -> Nepean

Those guys better vote yes on Thursday. And if they do, they should oust the union president for not presenting this offer when it was made before the strike.

but I digress.

Down with ramps.
