June No League Alternative
#1
So the next 4 weeks we have no league. But im sure many would like to continue foosing so how about this.

On Wednesday whoever wants to shows up for 8pm and we play a singles tournament and a no-fee DYP (or $5, something minimal, save the money for Fridays) at the same time.

We at OFA don't play very much singles, and it shows when we go to tournaments, but the recent league changes helped to address this problem (playing an extra singles and specialty). Other foosball clubs run DYP's and then singles draws afterwards but I think with our number of tables we should be able to run them at the same time and it will save on time. (and I think we will have lower numbers)

I think for both tournaments we should test out Sean Lees new tournament format.

We could also do a points race for the month, with a prize awarded to the top player and the top rookie (player that hasn't gone to a tournament, ever). Maybe OFA money towards the players next/first tournament, OFA swag, t-shirt, wraps, nachos, w/e Chris has surplus of, just some incentive. And since its more casual if players miss a week its all good, at the end of the month this can be fixed by each player choosing their best 3 weeks (if they showed up every week), that way their is still an incentive to come every week but players who miss one week out of 4 are not penalized.

I'm in favor of this idea. I'll be back next week.

If someone can pick me up for 7:15-7:30 every Wednesday I can run this for the month as well if you want Chris/Vern, or you can run it, w/e works.

Points race is also an interesting idea, I am in favor of supporting this. We don't get enough singles tournament experience, who from Ottawa did well in Open Singles and Amateur Singles versus the doubles on our last tournament? I only got top 5 in AS, Taha 5th in OS, and Merv/Jon got 7th in OS.

Look at that versus the AD and OD where everyone did better overall.

Can't make 8 pm Wednesdays, so makes no difference to me...

?

no fee dyp means no prize money dyp?
which would be fine with me
structure, rule, too much structure -- that I can do without
but is quite alright if someone (else) takes care of it

The "free" DYP points could be used to say subsidize the top winner for their Summer league fees.

Get people coming out for 4 weeks, and it costs OFA $40 for one person .

Does anyone have an idea of the numbers we are going to have tnt? We only have 4 'yes' votes for this so if were not going to get a good turnout I might consider a foos break for a few weeks.

why worry?

all you need for a good time is 4 people showing up to play

the rest -- talk, plans, proposals, schemes, options, changes and votes -- the rest is all good but just peripheral to the matter at hand

I'll be at TG around 8:00 and will be there around 2 hours

show up if you want to play everybody -- it's always more fun if you do it with someone else, much more fun if there is a crowd
by the way, that is my vote: yes to play -- just don't make me "stand on my head" to do it, most of anything short of that I can put up with

well we didn't quite "show the flag" last night

got there before 8:00 and Vern had been already diligently counting loonies and filling out tables' revenue reports for quite a while

we did play singles, then and later, as first Manny and then Merv showed up (also a guy that declared he was going to "play against the best of us", I did the usual recruiting bit with him but after he played Manny he no longer appeared that keen and left the tables)

the best part of the evening was doubles, that was a blast - poor Cat though, as I was paying for my steak dinner she blurted out a disappointed "where is everybody?"

on my part, in doubles and switching partners I was on the losing side only for one game out of more than a dozen, and stayed there twice longer than intended

I do hope and count on that playing ending up on our permanent records
next chance for a good time is tomorrow
