Lets do van.... we could all take turns on the road. Instead of having just one or two ppl driving per car if we decide to take separate cars....

The van is more expensive. I just looked at it through my corporate travel plan and it's still around $500-$550 for a new Dodge Caravan. Same as what Taha's saying. The first 800km are included and then $0.20/km for the additional kms.

I think you're gas calculation is much lower than what I'm calculating though. The minivan I'm looking at runs 8km/liter which comes to 225L of gas at 1.25/L you're looking at $280 in gas.

So all in all for a minivan we're looking at almost $800 to rent it for the weekend. Which comes to just over $130/person. Still way cheaper than flying but that's the realistic cost.

Rolling down there like bosses in a couple matching Chrysler 300s would be roughly the same gas for each vehicle so $560 plus $240 to rent with unlimited kms = $800 as well... haha ok w/e we want to do it's going to be around $130/person.

I just threw out a number for gas, but Dan I think your numbers are off too. A minivan is more like 10.5 km/l in highway driving, which will be 99% of our driving. That comes out to 170 litres, and we can buy most of our gas in the US where the price of gas is just under 1$ per litre. I think it's more like 180$-200$ for gas.

Oh ok I didn't know gas prices were that much less in the states. The 8km/L was the hwy amount posted on Hertz for a 2013 Dodge Caravan so I guess we'll have to see when we lock it down. But ya around $200 seems realistic.

So do you want to book it Taha? Or did you want me to? I know it's cheaper if the person is over 25 and I don't turn 25 until Sunday so maybe you or Jon should book it as it sounds like the minivan option is what people want to do.

It'll be some cozy team bonding haha

Taha will book it, he can list one other driver who will have to be present at the time you are picking up the vehicle. The other guys if they are driving it and crash and their license isn't listed -- you are not insured and all damages are then out of pocket.

It should be Taha & Jon grabbing the thing, or Mario if he arranges to meet them when you pick up your vehicle.

It might be better to go with a weekly rental. That way we can get unlimited mileage. Does anyone have any coupons or something that we can use for car rentals, or work for a company that has a corporate rate.

Taha
Ok thanks for all the help you guys Tongue

I booked a budget minivan for 4 days from the airport location and it has unlimited mileage. The price is 356$. It was low compared to the other rental companies, so I called and checked and that is in fact the final price. Extra drivers 10$ per day, so with one extra driver we're looking at 400$, which 200$ less than what we expected. He also said no extra fee to take the car to the US. I've already prepaid at this point so you're not allowed to back out.

I'll need someone to help me pick up the car on Friday.

We should talk about timing tonight. There is a big storm moving in so we want to give ourselves plenty of time to get there in time for the DYP at 9pm. It's an 8 hour drive, so I suggest we leave no later than 11am.

Jon, if you're going to be the other driver, you need to be at my place at 10am to pick up the van. It would actually be good if we could get a ride out to the airport. That way we don't have to worry about parking a car while we rent the van.

If we're leaving from my place, then one car can park in my driveway, and that's pretty much it (there is visitor parking, but I can't guarantee you won't get a ticket if you park there for 3 full days). So you'll have to coordinate and come all in 1 car and BE THERE BY 11am.

And if anyone pulls an Omar, I will send Belal after you to straighten you out.

Taha -- last year with my bad speeding habit we still took about 8-9 hours to get there. Rush hour traffic, crossing bridges and shit plus you got a few smokers with you who can't smoke in a rental vehicle so you'll need pit stops.

Aim to leave by 9am.

Are you not aiming to get there for ML?

Ninja Edit: How about leaving Thursday and driving overnight?

Too late for that. Our rental only starts Friday morning.

I wasn't planning on playing Master Limited. Was anyone else?

Ok I won't be there tonight, I'm fine to be the other driver or not. I can't leave my car at your place my wife needs it over the weekend. Maybe we all drive out with Packer?
