Started to dry it out last night.
Pulled the hard drive and brought it into work. They are bringing in the special connector to read the data on Friday.

Thomas, if you haven't gotten the data read, I can do this for you... Short of disassembling the drive in a clean room, I'm pretty good at data recovery.
It does need to be electronically functional, however.

Update - I got an adapter that allows you to plug the drive in by USB. Couldn't get Windows or Linux to recognize the drive. It would recocnize the adapter but not the drive itself (in diskmanager and linux equivalent).
I"m taking it to Chris A. tonight to see if he can take a look. Otherwise I might take you up on this or get one of the professional shops to look at it.

If Chris A can't recover it, the professional shops will charge $1500, fyi, since it'll need a clean room.
Does the drive spin up at all when connecting the adapter? If it doesn't power on, that means a clean room is needed.
Edit: It may also mean that the adapter you used is bad... I have 4 we can try in any case...

Drive is alive and Chris A was able to recover the valuable data. Working on cloning the drive into a new machine.

Chris A was able to clone the drive and install it into a new laptop. Data saved. New laptop is the same as the old one.
