Summer League - Official Format
#1
After everyone's exhaustive input on Wednesday night I have come up with the following format.

Dates
12 Weeks of League
May 13th First day
July 1st off
August 5th last league night.
Playoffs August 12th

Fees
$5/night = $60
1/2 price for new players = $30 + you get a Jersey!

League Prizes:
Weekly Cash Prizes
If you win 1 match your team will get $5. Win both Matches your team will get $10.
Playoffs
Winners of the playoffs will get jerseys!!! Nice ones to!
*teams have to have played 50% of the league nights to qualify for playoffs.
** Exact playoff format will be determined closer to end of league but expect something like last time which was single elimination, straight up, league night sheet format.

2 Person Team Format
1 game of Singles
1 game of Roto Doubles
1 game of Specialty
1 game of 2 ball Rollerball
2/3 Doubles

This will constitute one Match against one opponent. Each team will play 2 matches a night. This will give the same number of games as last league but since you only play one other team at a time it should still be pretty fast to finish.

Details
Now for any of you who are doing the math and say "Wait a minute, how can you have two matches a night with only 7 teams without having someone sitting and waiting ? I am not sitting and waiting!!!" Well, I have thought of that an I have come up with a solution.

If there is an odd number of teams on any particular night we will use the following format:
- Teir 1 - Team 1, 2, 3 according to standings
- Tier 2 - Team 4, 5, 6, 7, according to standings
- Tier 3 - if needed.
The following matches will take place.
1v2
1v3
2v3 (there will be a modified sheet that will allow all three teams to play at once with independent results)
4v5
6v7
4v6
5v7
After the nights results, the teams are re-seated in the standings.

Now if we get an even number of teams because a team joins that night then we will play head to head according to the standings:
1v2, 3v4.... After the first round the standings are adjusted and a second match is played 1v2, 3v4...

Questions/Comments?

This is an awesome format. Excited that we have weekly prizes. How will the tier structure work for week one? Random draw or will you seed teams? I'd like to win some cash before we have to start playing Mario and Liudas (lol)

Seeded. This will also be the case for any new team. So if we get a walk up team from the bar they will go in at the bottom, if Merv and Jon show up they will go in at the top.

Given the registered teams the week one seeding would be as follows:
1) Mario & Liudas
2) Team PeeJar (Vern and Gid)
3) DP - Dave and Paul
4) Sam and Mario
5) Chris and Stu
6) JP and Erin
7) Frank and Chelsey

Chris ,
Format sounds good. Just for the record when you talk of Gid and I as a team --please refer to us as Team PeaJar. We also would like the senior citizen discount.
Thanky
Vern

I see you are very very efficient.

I'm glad you are around Vern, you you young senior -- don't try to explain the format to me, when the time comes just hold my hand and tell me what to do

(this is in no manner or form a criticism on the format or of its explanation, and least of all of its author: I'm sure it's a great job, but somehow I found that pseudo-algebra joke much easier to understand)

How did "PeeJar" turn into "PeaJar"?

it's because of us "Has Beans"

hey, if teams/players can join any time, can they also pay as they go?

better not, at joining time better exact full amount to the end of the season

I'll play that one by ear, if it is Omar and Hous, then yes I'll get full payment, if it is two guys from the bar that want to play, then weekly payment is ok.

BTW - Bring your league fees and Jerseys this Wednesday.

aww man I was hoping we could pay weekly; what's the difference to the OFA anyways? I'm broke as a joke these days!

Special payment plans are available, but full payment up front is preferred.

if preferred doesn't mean mandatory, then I'd like to pay $5 a week; it would make foosball that much more appealing to the wife Smile I'll still be showing up every week, regardless. Foosball is my sanity Big Grin

you have to understand that Chris has some upfront costs that he incurrs, which is why upfront payment is encouraged... not only that, but if you've been around enough you realize that it sucks having to babysit and keep tabs every week on people.

paying to play foosball should not be a burden of the league organizer, but rather the players. And believe me, you can't count on the players to volunteer payment every week -- you have to "remind" them.

I totally understand some people don't have the immediate disposable income - few of us do. But it's still more appropriate to ask your partner to spot you, rather than the president of OFA.

Chris you are gracious to offer a payment plan. End of transmission.
