Summer Point Race - Official Details
#1
Hello Foosers:

This summer will be running a point race. It will be the same format as last year but will all of the kinks worked out. The night will play out in two stages:
1) Random Doubles - random partners and opponents
2) Elimination Singles.

Players will earn points in both rounds. Points will be collected each night. Your best 6 of 8 nights will be used for your final score. The top three positions will have prize payouts. On Week 9, there will be a monster DYP with additional prizes.

Start Date - July 8th.
Finish Date - Sept 2nd.
Start time - 8:00.
Entry $5/week.

The format allows for players to come late and join the fun anytime. The Random doubles uses the SWISS style tournament selection where teams are chosen based on their winning performance. It will try to place you with other players similar strength to you so that the games are competitive. The ranking is constantly evolving as the system is updated with stats. You're ranking improves and decreases based on how strong your opponents are.

Happy Foosing.

I should also point out this is an individual competition. You don't need to worry about your partners, finding a spare or having to miss the odd night here or there.

Should be lots of fun.

Sounds great. Steve mentioned maybe dropping the amount of best weeks to 5/8. I think thats fair, it was 6 last year but reducing it gives more players the chance to win.

What did you mean by either best 6 or 8 nights?

So its not just random doubles like last year? Its seeded so you play similar skilled players? Is there a cap on the amount of rounds in the the first part of each week? We ran into an issue last year where most weeks had 4-6 rounds, then in the final week we had some extra time so went to 7 or 8 rounds and it went in my favour as a result.

Also, can we do best 5/8 instead of 6/8?

I'll be there! I don't see a serious downside to doing 5/8 versus 6/8. If anything it will make the race tighter.

I would like to keep it to 6. Rather not reward people for missing 3 weeks. You already have two nights to skip out.

Many players expressed an interest in being able to miss 3 instead of 2, what with it being summer and all.

Your not really rewarding anyone, your giving a chance for more OFA players to win, which should theoretically increase attendance.
