Since I'm the one who talked to you Brian about the long push, now's as good a time as any to elaborate.
Casti hit the nail on the head when it comes to predictability.
Take a look at the 2 images he posted (which I originally posted back in the day). Reverse them for the push.
In the first image, shots #2 and #4 are the most common. In the second image, shots #2, #3 and #4 are very common. What's similar to all of these shots? They can all be blocked by the inside man on the 3 bar.
What I suggested you practice are shots #5 and #6 in the first image, and #5 and #6 in the second. If you can hit these options, people will no longer be able to race your shot with the inside man (well, outside man in the case of the push) of the 3 bar since the bumper hits the wall. Now they have to shuffle, and this is what opens the inside shots.
The kick shots (#7 in both images) are very useful as well, just don't become predictable with them. e.g: Is your take off slower? Do you set the ball differently when shooting them, etc.
